"A Moment in Time" is how real and relatable the story actually is.
Throughout the play I remember feeling like I was actually there living
the story through the characters. I sort of was since I had the luxury of
front row seats, but everything from character execution, to the lighting,
and the music was so on point that it was nearly impossible to not be
engaged in the emotional journey.
When it comes to the acting, the first words that come to mind are pure
and authentic and I mean from every possible angle. It was so clear that
the actors weren't just reading lines they had remembered off a page,
instead it was clear that each of them had truly absorbed their characters
and ultimately brought them to life.It was because of this realistic
portrayal that we were able to become emotionally attached to their
situation, particularly the 2 brothers and the relationship they shard with
their mother.
I felt that both wives and the 2 daughters played tremendous supporting
roles and really helped us to understand the harsh reality they all had
been living in, each with their own unique set of differences.
It seemed that A Moment In Time (pun intended) I was watching a
situation play out that was far too familiar. That's what good acting does
after all. While the story was based arond a sick mother who had done
everything she possibly could have for her sons, we see how our
lives ultimately take these sharp and unexpected turns that end up
separating us from who we once were. The relationship the brothers
were able to rediscover provided further proof that it is never too late and
luckily it's something their mother was ble to initiate and see prior to her
last goodbye.
Ultimately I was impressed with this show and would gladly see it again.
Except next time I'd like to bring my camera and conduct some
interviews with the actors & especially the Writer/Director. I say that
because I truly believe that the energy created between the group of
individuls is sure to lead to success.
Lastly, I noticed something quite unique that was played out in front of us
during the story. There was a scene that occurred on each side of the
stage where both families were alone with each other going over the
latest news they had discovered about the mother's final arrangements.
This sort of went back and forth and what I really enjoyed about this was
that not only did the lighting indicate where the scene had moved to, but
each actor would freeze in place until the scene returned to them.
